Henry tells Edwin that the editor of the Normal Pennant, the student paper at the State Normal School ask me to supplemented a formal letter addressed to Edwin relative to the coming issue of the Normal Annual. Rowena Chaney the editor, and other members would like the issue of the paper that has greatly honored the school. They are waiting to hear from Edwin so they can publish it.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901).
